I am still at it
I have still been working away in the background and there are still four locations I need to add. Two were taken a little while back and I actually shot two locations whilst in London today. The last month has been tied up working, studying, and volunteering at a community fridge (one day a week) called Pass it On. They also form the basis for my latest assignment submission for university which has been handed in but I will continue to work on as I will re-work the final piece prior to entering assessment on this unit.
What they do at the fridge is save food that supermarkets would otherwise throw away. There are mountains of it. In fact what they are throwing away is quite staggering. Entire packs of soft drink get chucked out if just one can bursts! A tin of coffee because the can was badly dented. I can assure you the contents were fine as I tasted it.
Not reduced in price. Just thrown away, unless of course the founder of Pass it On, Zoe came along and rescued it. Zoe retired a few years ago but quickly found herself at a loss so she started volunteering. One thing lead to another and she founded her own CIC or Community Interest Company. She goes out each night for 3-4 hours and collects from around 11 local supermarkets! It’s frankly remarkable and she does this for nothing than to keep busy and help her community. It’s pretty amazing!
But yeah, that’s me for now. I will endeavour to get the outstanding food bank pictures uploaded and get some more in the coming weeks. I have taken to typing in Google when out doing other things “food banks near me” which is what i did today. Unsurprisingly, there was one just twenty minutes walk from me. Correction, the were quite a few, but the one I got was in the right direction as time was getting on and I needed to get home. I got it though, and another Google when I got to the car at Croydon yielded similar results. “food banks near me” may well end up being a thing when I am out and about in different places. For now, catch you later!
